Viewing an Overview of Microsoft Patch Management
Theย Patch Management Overviewย window provides a summary of the approval settings for available Microsoft Updates and the number of devices being patch managed. Additionally, the overview provides a checklist of actions that are waiting to be taken in the form of a to do list.
The approval of a patch is always reflected immediately on theย Overviewย page. However, theย Statusย (Installed,ย Failed,ย Needed, and so on) comes from Onsite Manager and is updated within the hour.
You may want to set up an alert that notifies you if a server requires a reboot after installing a patch. See Adding a Monitor for Microsoft Patch Health.
In Service Center, clickย Patch Managementย >ย Overview. Here is a summary of what you see in theย Patchesย section:
Approved - Install (Including Mixed)ย The number of Microsoft Updates that have any approval status other than Declined. If you want more information about the approved patches, click the corresponding number to display theย Patch Approvalย window.
Approved - Remove (Including Mixed)ย The number of Microsoft Updates that have been approved for removal. If you want more information about the approved patches, click the corresponding number to display theย Patch Approvalย window.
Approved - Mixedย The number of Microsoft Updates that have been approved for Install for at least one approval group and approved for Remove for at least one other approval group. If you want more information about the approved patches, click the corresponding number to display theย Patch Approvalย window.
Patches Declinedย The number of Microsoft Updates that have an approval status of Declined. If you want more information about the patches that have been declined, click the corresponding number to display theย Patch Approvalย window.
Patches Not Approvedย The number of Microsoft Updates that have not been approved. After Patch Tuesday, it's a good idea to check this item to see if there are any patches to review and approve. Patches Failedย The number of Microsoft Updates that have failed to install. If you want more information about the failed patches, click the corresponding number to display theย Patch Reportย window.
Patches Neededย The number of updates that are needed by managed devices. Updates that are needed will be installed automatically if the agent policy is set to do that.
Based on the synchronization settings that tell Barracuda RMM what patches to look for, Barracuda RMM communicates with update services to check whether the update is needed by the computers that are being managed. Critical Updates and Security Updates are automatically approved for detection.
Total Computersย The number of devices that are being patch managed.
Computers with Patch Errorsย The number of devices that have experienced errors while attempting to install Microsoft Updates. If you want to see more information about the computers with patch installation errors, click the corresponding number to display the Managed Device Report window.
Computers Needing Patchesย The number of devices that need Microsoft Updates approved for the installation to occur. If you want to see more information about the computers that need patches installed, click the corresponding number to display theย Device Reportย window.
To Doย Keeps track of actions that have to be performed and are required for effective operations. Refer to the list on a daily basis to ensure your customers have access to the most current Microsoft Updates.
