Understanding the Terminology

The following terms are used throughout the Symantec Endpoint Protection service module dashboards:

Endpoint A managed device that is WMI-enabled and has the Symantec Endpoint Protection client policy module applied, whether or not the Symantec Endpoint client is installed.

  • An unprotected endpoint is a managed device that is WMI-enabled and has the Symantec Endpoint Protection client policy module applied, but does not have a a supported Symantec Endpoint client installed.

  • An unmanaged endpoint is a managed device that is WMI-enabled, has the Symantec Endpoint Protection client policy module applied, has a supported Symantec Endpoint client installed, that is not currently managed by a Symantec Endpoint Protection Manager server.

  •  A managed endpoint is a managed device that is WMI-enabled, has the Symantec Endpoint Protection client policy module applied, has a supported Symantec Endpoint client installed, and is currently managed by any Symantec Endpoint Protection Manager server

Healthy Endpoint An endpoint that is up-to-date and reporting as not infected to the Symantec Endpoint Protection Manager.

At Risk Endpoint The endpoint is at risk for infection. This can be due to a number of causes:

  • an endpoint is out-of-date;

  • an endpoint does not have protection installed;

  • protection technology is disabled on the endpoint;

  • the endpoint is not reporting to a Symantec Endpoint Protection Manager.

Infected Endpoint TAn endpoint is infected with malware, which has not yet been removed by Symantec Endpoint Protection.

Monitored Site A site containing endpoints monitored by one of the Symantec Endpoint Protection policy modules.

Protected Site A site in which all endpoints are reporting as healthy.

At Risk Site A site in which at least one endpoint is reporting as at risk.

Infected Site A site in which at least one endpoint is reporting as infected.
