Base Licensing and Subscriptions

Licenses and subscription updates for the CloudGen Firewall are provided by the Barracuda Networks Online database. Single licenses for the CloudGen Firewall are bound to the MAC address of the first network interface.

CGF Hardware

For a hardware CGF (box firewall), the base license is bound to the MAC for operating the product.
An Energize Updates (EU) license is mandatory for the first year of purchase. After the first year, the customer can renew the EU license.
If the customer decides not to renew the EU license, the box will continue to run with the base license and with limited functionality, i.e., VPN.

VFC licenses (Vx, Cloud - BYOL)

For virtual CGFs, the base license is included with the Energize Updates license. An EU license is therefore required for the product to function properly.

CloudGen Firewall Base License

The CloudGen Firewall base license gives you a next-generation firewall with the following features:

Cold Spare Licensing

For redundancy, you can purchase a CloudGen Firewall without a license and use it as a cold spare replacement. If the production unit fails, call Barracuda Networks Technical Support to transfer the license to the spare unit and continue normal operations.
