Does Intronis back up VMware virtual machines running Linux?

Yes, Intronis can back up VMware virtual machines running Linux. The only prerequisite is that VMware tools must be installed on the Linux guest in order for Intronis to properly back it up. VMware tools supports a variety of Linux distributions, including:

  • Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL)

  • CentOS

  • Ubuntu

  • Debian

  • Fedora

  • Asianux

  • Oracle Linux

  • Mandrake Linux

  • SUSE

  • Turbolinux

  • OSX

  • FreeBSD

  • OS/2

  • Netware

  • SCO

  • eCom Station

  • Java Desktop System

  • Solaris

  • Toshiba 4690

More information on VMware Tools compatibility can be found here: https://www.vmware.com/resources/compatibility/pdf/VMware_GOS_Compatibility_Guide.pdf

If VMware tools is not installed on the machine, we cannot quiesce the guest to create a snapshot. The only other way to back up a virtual machine in this state is if it is powered off when the backup runs.
