License Count and Billing

License Count and Billing
Barracuda Networks uses the Microsoft Entra ID of each account as the unique identifier to ensure that the correct number of licensed users is billed.
For customers who purchase Entra ID Backup or Entra ID Backup Premium standalone, licenses are assigned on a per-user basis. All member-user accounts assigned to individuals in the tenant must be licensed. Guest and service/automation accounts are backed up but not charged. Entra ID Backup is included at no additional cost for customers with Cloud-to-Cloud Backup for Microsoft 365 licensing, but accurate license counts are still required to ensure a consistent experience.
Entra ID Backup Premium Licensing
Standalone Entra ID Backup or Entra ID Backup Premium (no Cloud-to-Cloud Backup)
If the customer is only using Entra ID Backup or Entra ID Backup Premium as standalone services:
Every member user in the tenant must be licensed, including service and disabled users.
Guest accounts are backed up but not charged.
Cloud-to-Cloud Backup + Entra ID Backup Premium
If the customer is using both Cloud-to-Cloud Backup for Microsoft 365 and Entra ID Backup Premium:
Entra ID Backup Premium licenses follow the same counting method as Cloud-to-Cloud Backup.
Only users with a chargeable Microsoft 365 license (for example, Exchange Online, SharePoint Online, OneDrive for Business, Microsoft Teams) are billed; users without a chargeable Microsoft 365 license are backed up but not charged.
Guest and service/automation accounts are backed up but not charged.
