Offboarding Guide for Cloud-to-Cloud Backup

Offboarding Guide for Cloud-to-Cloud Backup

Purpose: Use this guide when offboarding Cloud-to-Cloud Backup (CCB). It explains how to export any data you need to keep, purge data when immediate deletion is required, remove the correct Azure Enterprise Application for each product, and understand what happens to retained data after subscription expiration.

Cloud-to-Cloud Backup uses separate Azure Enterprise Applications for each product. Depending on your subscription, you may have one or more of the applications below installed in your Azure tenant.

Before you begin

  1. Identify which CCB products you use. Check Azure Enterprise Applications and confirm which applications from the table above are present in your tenant. Your offboarding steps depend on which products are installed.

  2. Export any data you need to retain. Barracuda Networks does not provide a data export service after your subscription ends. If you need to keep any backup data, download it before offboarding.

  3. Purge data first if immediate deletion is required. If your organization has compliance or privacy requirements for immediate deletion, use Purge On-Demand before removing the Enterprise Application. See How to Back Up and Restore Your Microsoft Data.

  4. Review the retention timeline. See Retention timeline after expiration for what happens to data after the application is removed.

Important: Each CCB product uses its own Enterprise Application. Removing one application does not remove access for another product.

Export and retention

Export data before offboarding

Use the Export feature from the Restore page to download any data you need to keep.

  • Microsoft 365 data exports as PST for Exchange and ZIP for OneDrive, SharePoint, and Teams content.

  • Entra ID objects export as JSON. Multi-item exports are delivered as ZIP files.

  • Export files remain available for download for 3 days.

  • You can export to a local workstation or directly to Microsoft Azure Blob Storage by using a SAS token.

For export instructions, see How to Export a Data Source.

Purge data when immediate deletion is required

Use Purge On-Demand from the Restore page (Restore > select items > Purge On-Demand) when you need backup data deleted before offboarding. Purge permanently deletes the selected backup data and all associated revisions. See How to Back Up and Restore Your Microsoft Data.

Caution: Purge On-Demand cannot be undone.

Retention timeline after expiration

If the subscription expires, retained data follows the standard expiration timeline:

  • Days 0 to 30: CCB remains fully functional. You can renew the subscription, export data, and restore data.

  • Days 31 to 45: Backups stop, but restores and exports remain available.

  • After day 45: Access is removed, and Barracuda Networks may permanently delete all customer data, including cached and backup copies.

For full details, see Expired Subscriptions.

Offboard M365 Backup

Follow these steps if you are offboarding M365 Backup for Exchange, OneDrive, SharePoint, Teams, or Planner.

Tip: If you also use Entra ID Backup, removing the Microsoft 365 application does not affect Entra ID Backup.

  1. Complete the export and purge steps above if needed (see Export and retention).

  2. Sign into Azure Portal.

  3. Go to Azure services > Enterprise Applications.

  4. Locate Cloud-to-Cloud-Backup with application ID bea75f7a-2505-46e8-9bf6-d3f7da9c9da7.

  5. Open Properties, then click Delete.

Offboard Entra ID Backup

Follow these steps if you are fully offboarding Entra ID Backup. If you have both Entra ID Backup and Entra ID Backup Premium, remove both applications.

Note: If you only want to discontinue Premium while keeping Entra ID Backup, skip this section and see Downgrade Entra ID Backup Premium below.

Tip: If you also use Microsoft 365 Backup and plan to keep it, removing Entra ID applications does not affect Microsoft 365 Backup.

  1. Complete the export and purge steps above if needed (see Export and retention).

  2. Sign into Azure Portal.

  3. Go to Azure services > Enterprise Applications.

  4. Locate Cloud-to-Cloud-Backup-EntraId with application ID ca5b3e11-99ad-4642-a227-1a8b19b79171.

  5. Open Properties, then click Delete.

  6. If present, locate Cloud-to-Cloud-Backup-EntraId-Premium with application ID 829aa5f0-6449-42cd-9509-00c9d7fbfcb7.

  7. Open Properties, then click Delete.

Downgrade Entra ID Backup Premium

If you are discontinuing only Entra ID Backup Premium and keeping Entra ID Backup, do not remove the Enterprise Applications. Instead, allow the Premium subscription to expire and then reauthorize the connection.

  1. Allow the Entra ID Backup Premium subscription to expire. The account automatically switches to the basic Entra ID Backup plan.

  2. Reauthorize your Entra ID connection. Go to Backup > Backup sources and select Reauthorize from the connection action menu.

    reauthorizeEntra.jpg
  3. Confirm that backups resume after reauthorization.

Caution: Reauthorization is required after Premium expiration. Backups may be interrupted until the connection is reauthorized.

After the downgrade, Premium-only objects are no longer backed up:

  • App Registrations

  • Audit Logs

  • Authentication Method Policies

  • Authentication Strength Policies

  • BitLocker Keys

  • Conditional Access Policies

  • Device Compliance Policies

  • Device Configuration Policies

  • Enterprise Applications

  • Local Administrator Passwords (LAPS)

  • Named Locations

Previously backed-up Premium data is retained according to the expiration timeline and then permanently deleted.

Important notes

  • Removing an Enterprise Application immediately stops backups for that product because Barracuda Networks no longer has access to the tenant data for that service.

  • Removing an Enterprise Application does not immediately delete retained backup data from Barracuda Networks.

  • If you already removed the application and need help with a deletion request, contact Barracuda Networks Technical Support.

  • For subscription or renewal questions, contact renewals_team@barracuda.com.

  • For more information about data handling, see Barracuda Networks Legal Terms and Conditions.
