Backup Page

Backup Page

The Backup menu in Barracuda Cloud-to-Cloud Backup contains two pages: Backup sources and Retention policies.

Use Backup sources to view connections, enable and review protected data sources, assign retention policies, and configure backup selections for each data source.

Use Retention policies to create, edit, and review retention policies used by your data sources. For detailed retention policy instructions, see How to Configure Retention Policies.

Backup sources

The Backup sources page is where you manage tenant connections and review the protection status of each available data source.

Note: Connections migrated from the legacy version of Cloud-to-Cloud Backup display on the Backup Sources page but do not show vault-level information (last backup, retention, or backup selections). To manage these connections, contact Barracuda Networks Technical Support.

What you can do on this page

  • View and rename existing connections.

  • Reauthorize a connection when permissions or subscription changes require it. See How to Reauthorize a Connection.

  • Enable available data sources for protection.

  • Review the most recent backup activity shown for a data source.

  • Assign or change the retention policy applied to an enabled data source.

  • Open the configuration drawer for a data source to select backup mode, include or exclude specific items, or upload a CSV for bulk SharePoint site selections.

For step-by-step instructions on managing connections and configuring data sources, see How to Configure Your Data Source.

Understand data source states

Each data source on the Backup sources page appears in a state that indicates whether it is part of your active backup configuration.

State

What to know

Disabled

The data source has not yet been enabled and is not part of your backup configuration.

Disabled sources appear separately from protected sources. To start protecting one, turn it on and confirm the action.

Enabled

The data source is active in your backup configuration.

Once a data source is enabled, it cannot be returned to a disabled state. You can still change what is selected for backup.

Understand backup selection status

For each enabled data source, the Backup sources page displays a selection status that summarizes how content is being protected.

Status

Status

What to verify

All

All available content for that data source is selected for backup. You can apply exclusions to filter specific items.

Use this when you want the broadest protection scope for that source.

Custom Selection

A subset of content is selected for backup.

This can mean specific users, groups, sites, or Teams are selected, or that no items are currently selected.

What happens when no items are selected

If you modify the backup selection for an enabled data source so that no users, groups, sites, Teams, or other supported items are selected, the data source remains enabled.

  • Backup jobs continue to run on schedule.

  • No new content is added to protection because nothing is selected.

  • The interface still shows Custom Selection rather than indicating that zero items are protected.

Removing all selected items is not the same as disabling a data source. There is no option to turn off backup activity entirely for a source once it has been enabled.

Retention policies

The Retention policies page is where you create, edit, and manage the policies that determine how long backed-up data remains recoverable in Cloud-to-Cloud Backup.

What you can do on this page

  • Create a new retention policy.

  • Edit an existing policy.

  • Delete a policy that is no longer assigned to any data source.

  • Review each policy's duration and assigned sources.

  • Confirm whether a data source is using the default policy or a custom one.

For full instructions, policy behavior, and FAQs, see How to Configure Retention Policies.
