How do I set my backup schedule time?
Cloud-to-Cloud Backup automatically sets a schedule for each of your data sources to ensure each backup finishes as efficiently as possible. More scheduling options are planned for a future release.
How do I add a user to access Cloud-to-Cloud Backup?
You must first create a user in Barracuda Cloud Control and give that user product entitlements to Cloud-to-Cloud Backup. See How to Add Users and Configure Product Entitlements and Permissions.
The user can then go into Cloud-to-Cloud Backup and manage their permissions in the Settings page. See Settings Page.
How do I restore data?
After the initial backup is complete, you can restore data by selecting files and folders from the Restore page. To verify which data sources have been backed up and are available for restore, see the Backup Page.
Note that you can only select data from one level folder hierarchy.
I started an export job to download my data. Where do I find the downloadable link?
After the export is complete, you can obtain the download link from either the Dashboard page or the Activities page. Click on the export report you want to download.
How do I set my retention policies?
Create and manage retention policies from the Backup > Retention policies page. See How to Configure Retention Policies. To view which data sources are currently protected and their backup status, see the Backup Page. Note that the Policies role must be assigned to create and manage retention policies. See Settings Page.
How long can I retain my backup data?
Retention periods are configurable. Create and manage retention policies from the Backup > Retention policies page to set your preferred retention duration. See Retention Policies for available options.
How do I add users to receive email notifications for alerts and backup failures?
Go to the Settings page, and go to the Email Notifications section. For more information, see the Settings Page.
How do I select what to back up?
You can configure your backup selections from the Backup > Backup sources page. Click the Backup section next to the desired data source to open the configuration drawer, where you can select whether to back up all or some items, include or exclude specific users, groups, sites, or Teams, and upload a CSV for bulk SharePoint site selections. For Entra ID data sources, you can also toggle specific object types on or off.
For an overview of backup sources and their status, see the Backup Page. For details on what data is backed up, see Data Backed Up in Microsoft 365 and Data Backed Up in Entra ID.
Why is my data in Cloud-to-Cloud Backup being throttled?
Cloud-to-Cloud Backup uses Microsoft Graph to access data from a variety of Microsoft cloud services. While Microsoft Graph is designed to handle a large number of requests, throttling can occur to ensure the service remains functional. For more information, see Understanding Throttling.
Does Cloud-to-Cloud Backup offer IP address login restrictions?
While Cloud-to-Cloud Backup does not offer IP address login restrictions, you can utilize Microsoft Entra ID Conditional Access. Use Conditional Access policies to restrict access to your data and to keep your organization secure. For more information, see the Microsoft article https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/entra/identity/conditional-access/overview.
How does the purge function work in relation to my data source and backups?
The purge function only applies to items deleted from your active environment. If a file is still present in your data source, it continues to appear in your backups even if it hasn't been modified. Once the file is deleted from your data source, the assigned retention policy takes effect, and the file can be purged from backups.
Microsoft 365
Why can't I connect my backup account to Microsoft 365?
Ensure admin users set their Barracuda Cloud Control (BCC) entitlements to Cloud to Cloud Backup in the BCC Admin Users page. See How to Add Users and Configure Product Entitlements and Permissions.
Log in with a global admin account to give permissions to the application to access your tenant.
Note that the global admin is only needed for the initial connection and can be removed or changed back to a normal admin after the connection is successful.Once the connection is established, configure data sources from the Backup > Backup sources page. See How to Configure Your Data Source.
I restored a Teams channel. Why can't I see it in Microsoft 365?
Restoring Team channels within 30 days of them being deleted results in an error because Microsoft 365 keeps them in the recycle bin for 30 days. To work around this, recover the specific channels from the recycle bin using the Manage Team option in Microsoft 365.
Why does Teams restore take several hours to complete?
When restoring a Team or parts of a Team, Microsoft controls the provisioning of Teams objects. It can take up to 8 hours to provision a folder or other Teams objects. Microsoft is aware of these limitations and has committed to resolving them. Please be aware that restoring a Team or objects within a Team can cause a long restore time and is not within the control of Cloud-to-Cloud Backup.
Entra ID
I just connected to Entra ID and my first backup is complete. Why can’t I see any/all data on the Restore page?
After your initial backup, it may take a few minutes for the Restore page to display any data. This is expected as the initial backup job completes very quickly and it takes some time for those changes to propagate through the system and populate the Restore page. If this persists beyond 10-15 minutes, contact Barracuda Networks Technical Support for assistance.
Can I restore multiple items at once?
Yes, Entra ID Backup allows the selection of multiple items during a restore.
Does Entra ID Backup overwrite data in the tenant?
Yes. Entra ID restores overwrites all attributes within the object(s) selected for restoration. This differs from Microsoft 365 restores and is by design to ensure a consistent and useful restore.
Can I restore Entra ID data to an alternate location?
No, ‘alternate restore’ is not applicable for Entra ID because there are no alternate locations for the data. There is only a single repository for the entire tenant. The purpose of restoring from Entra ID Backup is to restore all the attributes and relationships of the object to a useful state, which requires restoration to the original location.
Are original Object IDs retained when restoring to Entra ID?
No, Object IDs (GUIDs) in Entra ID are immutable and are automatically assigned by Microsoft at the time of object creation. They cannot be manually set or changed via Graph APIs.
Microsoft intentionally assigns new Object IDs to ensure uniqueness, prevent collisions, and maintain data integrity across the entire Entra ID tenant. As a result, when you restore an object, such as a deleted user, group, or application, the system treats it as a new creation and assigns a new Object ID.
Are there any special considerations for running Entra ID back up on a hybrid Azure AD environment?
Currently, Barracuda Networks is researching what to fully support for hybrid environments for customers. Cloud-to-Cloud Backup currently supports Entra ID cloud-only customers for the objects included in Entra ID Backup. However, many hybrid customers are successfully able to back up their user, group, role, and administrative unit object types.
Entra ID Backup should function properly to back up these objects provided one of the following:
The supported objects are synced bi-directionally between cloud and on-prem environments using Microsoft’s Entra Connect Sync tool, or
Entra ID cloud is the primary source of truth for these objects and Microsoft’s Entra Cloud Sync tool is used.
Can I perform incremental backups for Entra ID Backup?
Currently, it’s not possible due to limitations in the Microsoft Graph API for Entra ID.
